What people ask before ordering an ancestor search.

How does genealogical research work?
After your request, the manager interviews the family and draws up a plan: which archives, collections and years to look at. The plan is broken into roadmap stages, and you see each one in your account. Genealogists send requests and go on expeditions, finds appear in My documents, and your genealogist messages you in Relic Chat. At the end you get a report, a book, a tree and a family website.
How much does the research cost?
It depends on the depth and geography of the search: how many lines, which regions, how far back to go. After the questionnaire, the manager quotes the cost of each stage in advance — you always know what you're paying for. The initial consultation and assessment of search prospects are free.
Can I pay in installments?
Yes, that's the standard way: each stage is paid separately, after the manager has set the amount and you've confirmed it. No upfront payment for the whole research is required, and there are no hidden charges.
Which archives do you send requests to?
Regional state archives, civil registry offices (ZAGS), military enlistment offices, RGADA, RGVIA, TsAMO and church collections. We work through official requests and in-person research expeditions: we have 170 vetted contractors in the regions who work in the reading rooms themselves.
What do invited relatives see?
The project progress, documents, team and event history. Financial information — contract amounts, payments, installments — isn't shown to relatives at all, and they can't pay for anything.
What if nothing is found on my line?
It happens: archives burned, registers were lost. That's why we work in stages: first an assessment of what has survived for your places, and only then the search. If a stage yields no results, you find out right away and decide whether to continue along another line.
Where do the documents found end up?
In the My documents section of your account, linked to the project and the person. Scans can be viewed in the browser, captioned and used on your family website and in the book.How the family archive works
How do I communicate with the genealogist during the research?
